MARTIAL TECHNIQUES

~The martial way of Will and Intelligence

A ‘martial technique’ is very similar to a martial maneuver with the exception that it is not connected to any specific martial style and can be learned by any practitioner willing to train and study. These are sort of ‘add-on’ techniques one might use when one has mastered all of the maneuvers of one’s chosen style to add more versatility or develop ones combat portfolio.

Based on samurai fiction from books, movies and anime, Martial Techniques are based on developing the mind of the warrior. They range from techniques as simple as “the stare-down”, subduing your enemy by sheer force of will in a way similar to Duel Dancing, to complex fighting strategies like preparatory maneuvers that affect entire fights from start to finish. Martial Techniques are also unique in that they can also affect your allies as well as your enemies. Sun Tzu’s Chinese martial opus ‘The Art of War’ and Japanese Master Miyamoto Musashi’s ‘Book of Five Rings’ are inspirations for these fighting elements. These techniques revolve around psyching-out and second-guessing your enemy. They are nearly identical to Martial Maneuver except that they are WIT and WILL based and are added on to a character’s existent martial repertoire independent form whatever style they practice.

Naraka’s Duhamma-binding Gaze -0, 1 Action, Damage: None, Contested
Description: this Technique is enacted as a declared action. The practitioner pits a roll of his WILL against the opponents opposed WILL roll. The amount of successes by which the practitioner surpasses the opponents roll determines a negative modifier applied to the opponent’s combat rolls for that round.

Alik’s Diamond Stratagem -0, 1 Action, Damage: None, Uncontested
Description: the practitioner makes a roll of their INT characteristic and devises a tactic to overwhelm the enemy based on their fighting style. Successes rolled indicate a number of extra attacks that can be made against that specific opponent in addition to the actions rolled for that round. These cannot be reactions as they are pre-planned attacks conceived by observing the enemy’s attack and defense style. These attacks cannot be used against an opponent other than the one declared when the action was taken. If the additional actions are not used during the round they are transferable to the next round but still must be declared actions.

The Great Sage’s Tactic -0, 2 Actions, Damage: None, Uncontested
Description: the practitioner designates a single target and a plan of attack to his companions and they all get extra dice to their next attack against that particular opponent// The practitioner rolls his INT characteristic unopposed. Successes indicate the number of dice added to everyone’s next attack versus that single opponent

Deva’s Mirror - 0, Actions: 1, preparatory maneuver, Damage: None
Description: The practitioner makes a roll of INT, if successful, allows the practitioner to exactly duplicate any maneuver used against them as am Undeclared Action. Must be the next immediate action after the defense action. Remains in effect until a different preparatory maneuver is initiated. Practitioner does NOT learn the maneuver and cannot repeat it after the combat.
